Scarab Beetle
The ongoing Bejeweled series was created as a point of reflection. Kristina was in the midst of her divorce after years of emotional and mental abuse, with her body in an almost constant state of survival mode. Additionally, her body failed her way through six IVF's, two IUI's and a miscarriage. After each disappointment, she was told it didn't work because her "energetic body was dirty" and she wasn't trying hard enough. Her value and other contributions were neither seen, nor appreciated. She was not allowed to have hobbies of her own. She fell into a dark pit of depression and was tired of being looked at like an insect.
The originals in this series have been created with a combination of traditional Golden and Arteza acrylics as well as the relatively new Interference acrylics, also by Golden. The color-changing nature of these paints presented a challenge for the foundry, but the prints turned out great!
The Scarab beetle is a symbol of rebirth, resurrection, transformation and growth. Kristina started this series as a form of rebirth and growth. Like the scarab, she could still shine like she did before she got dumped on and buried. She has intrinsic value in this world. And she's able to transform her pain into something beautiful that might help others. She wants you to know that YOU have value too. Don't let anyone make you feel small and worthless, because you're not. You're supposed to be here.
