Credi in te Stesso Original Painting
30” x 24” oil and mixed media over gallery-wrapped canvas.
Credi in te Stesso is Italian for “Believe in Yourself”. 2023 was an incredibly challenging year for Kristina as she trod her way through a very contentious divorce. There were many stretches during that time where she felt absolutely heartbroken, scared, overwhelmed and in utter despair. Those were the times she learned most how to breathe, lean into God and do her best to let Him take care of the battle. The choices of others aren’t God’s doing, but rather the free will of the individual. She leaned on God for steadfast strength, like a marble statue. She learned to turn the grays of life into bits of gold. She resolved to not let a man, hell-bent on destroying her for “disobeying” his will, steal her power and joy in the moment anymore than absolutely necessary. She had to believe in herself, knowing she would get through this temporary life-trial, however the outcome. God has big plans for her, and they don’t involve shrinking or dimming her light to fit inside of someone else’s own limiting beliefs for her.
The words “Credi in te Stesso” are scribed along the one side of the painting while the Roman numeral 13, a lucky number in Italian, is on the other.

What Makes It Special?
This is an original painting by Kristina Vanous. The background of this piece was created with Golden and Blick acrylics and texture mediums over gallery wrapped canvas. The bust portion was painted with Gamblin oils. As this was the first painting Kristina experimented with leafing, she chose to use an imitation gold leaf as an additional touch before varnishing with a Gamblin satin varnish.
