The ongoing Bejeweled series was created as a point of reflection. Kristina was in the midst of her divorce after suffering years of emotional and mental abuse, with her body in an almost constant state of survival mode as it failed her way through six IVF's, two IUI's and a miscarriage for an (ex) husband that was not open to adoption and insisted on having a biological child, despite her age. After each disappointment, she was told it didn't work because her "energetic body was dirty" and she “wasn't trying hard enough”. Her value, contributions and sacrifices were neither seen, nor appreciated. Her ideas, suggestions and feelings were consistently squashed. For a long time, she didn’t realize her own wants and dreams were just as important as anyone else’s. She fell into a dark pit of depression and was so tired of being looked at like an insect.
The Dung beetle can pull 1,000x its own body weight. Kristina carried a lot of unnecessary weight on her shoulders throughout her marriage and it almost crushed her. Just because someone couldn't see her worth though, didn't mean she didn't have any. Like the dung beetle, she could still shine, even in the shittiest of circumstances. She wants you to know that you have intrinsic value in this world too. Don't let anyone make you feel small and worthless. You are meant to be here and you’re allowed to pursue what matters most to YOU.
